30 Days of Me - Day 10 - Music
Amoeba Music, San Francisco - January 2008
I listen to music inconsistently. I always have.
Being of a wordy bent means that if I cannot concentrate on much else if there are lyrics floating around my head, but of course I can't stand instrumental music either. A catch-22 which restricts the times and places where I actually listen to music*.
It tends to be only in the car with Craig on the way to and from work. So instead of mood specific music, here are just a few of the songs which I enjoy at the moment:
x Bad Romance - Lady Gaga
x F-cking Boyfriend - The Bird and the Bee
x Violins and Violence - Knives at Noon
x Love the Way You Lie - Eminem featuring Rihanna
x Doll-dagga buzz-buzz ziggity-zag - Marilyn Manson
x Tightrope (Wondamix) - Janelle Monae featuring B.O.B. and Lupe Fiasco
x Broken Machine - Zowie
x Whatever you Like - Anya Marina
x Bang! Bang! - The Knux
x The Ghost Who Walks - Karen Elson
x I was Made for You - She & Him
x Downtown - Kids of 88
x Dixon's Girl - Dessa
x Aku Raukua - Patea Maori Club
x Tricky - Run DMC
A somewhat eclectic mix.
But! for the first time in a very long time a list of music I like includes New Zealand artists (I am not patriotic in my music choices) - Knives at Noon, Kids of 88, and Patea Maori Club.
* Background music is different. I can carry a conversation in a bar if the music has lyrics. And the call centre where I used to work had the radio playing constantly, however it was always tuned to a horrific soft-pop station that I actively tried to not hear.

30 Days of Me - Day 9 - Pride
It is hard being a proper grown up woman with a proper grown up job and deciding to not write about it on the internet.
My life has been busy with work-work-work for quite some time now.
There are things there of which I am proud but I am sticking to my decision.
However!
I am proud that I have kept to my savings schedule for my tattoo.
It's only 29 days away now and I am consistently hitting my targets. By the time I get there I will have more than enough. I hope. No, I will, I'm sure. Pretty sure.
Which means that the day after my tattoo? I may be able to do a little shopping as well. Fun!

30 Days of Me - Day 8 - Short-Term Goals
I'm not very goal oriented at the moment.
My professional life has been, while not discussing specifics on the internet, interesting recently, and my personal life? has been trundling along constant as ever.
But in the spirit of the meme ...
x Reconnect with London - my time in London seems more like a distant dream than ever before. I don't like it. So, I will remedy it, this involves reading old ohdarling entries and tweets, revisiting my flickr account, and reading an article about St Paul's Cathedral written by A.A. Gill.
x Take more photos - at the moment 1/2 the days in my "week in photographs" consist of the only shot I took that day.
x Be more organised - I need a different planner. I love the sparse look of my moleskine, but I don't like how restrictive it is in terms of planning.
x Read more - I have a very seriousTM book that I'm reading at the moment (full title) and it's due back on the 6th October. Also, my pile of books to read is getting ridiculous.
x Organise my "office" - there are boxes which haven't been unpacked since the move in November last year. Oops.
x Decide what I want to do for my birthday - usually I am brimming with plans but it seems that this year my thoughts towards the celebration of my birth are thus: meh.
x Finish this damned meme - because really, what's the point otherwise? Also, it finishes the night before my birthday.
I think the only goals which are unlikely to be completed this month are the personal and office organisation. Saving for shoes and tattoo leaves scarce funds for a filofax and ... organising the office is just SO boring.
But hey, the intention is important too, right?

30 Days of Me - Day 6 - Superheroes
Oh dear.
Here's where I begin to flounder.
I've always wondered about the appeal of superheroes. I can, on a fundamental level, understand why people dream of superhuman powers, of being more than THIS mere existence. And yet? It's never been for me.
I can watch and enjoy movies about superheroes (lord knows I couldn't be with Craig without watching them on occasion) but I cannot, in any way, say that I have a favourite.
If pushed (by an internet meme perhaps?) I would say ... Batman.
Because he is human, mortal, fallible, but with powers beyond the every day. The crux of his power is that he works for it. It is by dint of his extreme wealth and his own work ethic that he is more than human, super-human.
Not some freak accident, alien race, or spiderbite.

Week Thirty-Seven
Sunday
I found bake-your-own pain au chocolat. The world will never be the same again.
Monday
I had the time to take a lunch break (such a luxury) so I went for a walk and window-shopped DVDs.
Tuesday
Literary graffiti - Keat$. The Failure of Imagination.
Wednesday
I had Craig stop on the way home so I could climb a bank in 6 inch heels to take this photo.
Thursday
It stays so light so late now. I'm not looking forward to the clocks changing.
Friday
I splurged on magazines.
Saturday
I spent most of the day reading Redemption Songs.
